Monthly Meeting Minutes – June 4, 2025

Treasurer’s Report – May’s Numbers

  • Total Cash Assets: $39,249.95

  • Total Inventory: $3,104.00

  • May Income: $5,269.90

  • May Expenses: $26,511.33

  • May Net Income: -$21,241.43

  • YTD Income: $23,956.89

  • YTD Expenses: $37,022.94

  • YTD Net Income: -$13,066.05

  • Large reduction in cash due to purchase of trap target inventory. Targets should last for about 2 years.

  • Motion to approve treasurers report made by Doug, 2nd by Mitch, no discussion, passes unanimously

Membership Report

  • Total Members: 188

  • New Members to Review: Stephen Elston, Gavin Ritchie, Leaven Friedrichs, Glen Greenlee, Kyle Hill & Crystal Keim

  • Motion to approve made by Rex, 2nd by Jim D, no discussion, approved unanimously

Trap Report

·        Lead Remediation Project – 197,000 pounds recovered. We are potentially waiting for an increase in lead before selling.

·        Trap Price Increase: Due to the increased cost of targets, Greg recommended increasing the pricing for rounds of trap.

o   Effective June 4 (after the announcement), new pricing is as follows:

§  Members: $6

§  Non-members: $8

§  Youth punch cards: $60

o   Motion made by Doug Dreier, 2nd by Jerry S, no discussion, motion passes unanimously

·        Wednesday Morning Shoot: Attendance has been minimal, but the shoot is still happening.

·        Machine Maintenance: Erik P will be scheduling time to do yearly maintenance on the throwers.  

·        Trap Score Sheets: We are out of score sheets, Art is going to get more printed.

·        Erik Phillips, Ty Munchoff, Preston Ellis, Sean Weston and Venus Phillips have all been competing at the state level and finishing in the top of their respective classes.

 

·        VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR JUNE 29th ATA Trap Shoot – Contact Erik Phillips 719-486-4725 if you are able to help.

 

·        NO TRAP SHOOTING on June 13th, 14th, & 15th as the Rodeo will be going on.

Youth Trap Report

·        BV finished 4th in the 3A trap division for the state. We had the number one male shooter in the state, 3 shooters placed in the top 10.

·        Jake bought 36 cases of Rabbit targets for $4/ case.

Rifle Report

  • None

Rimfire Report

  • Sunday Rimfire updates: 7 shooters at the June 1st shoot. Lots of fun competition going on. If you are interested in participating in this shoot contact Mitch Williams at bvrimfire@yahoo.com

Pistol Report

  • Tuesday Night Shoot updates: Tuesday, 5/27 had 5 shooters. Tuesday, 6/3 had 4 shooters. Next Tuesday, 6/10 we'll be shooting military rifles beginning at ~5:30. As usual, if you don't have one there will be lots for you to borrow. The following Tuesday, 6/17 we'll be shooting rimfire and centerfire handguns at steel for time beginning at ~5:30. If you would like to be added to the email list for this shoot, please let Jim Willut know by emailing him at bvscofficer@gmail.com.

  • Pistol Range Container Painting: Volunteers needed on Monday, June 16th to assist. Please let Rex Roberson (bvsportsmansclub@gmail.com) know if you can help.

  • Ladies Concealed Handgun Permit Class: 4 ladies attended, 2 were members and one will be joining the club.

  • 5/25/25 Practical Pistol Match: 6 shooters attended, 4 are current members and 2 have submitted applications.

  • Concealed Handgun Permit Renewal Class: 2 students attended, one is a current member.

  • Pistol Range Rules Reminder:

    • The 5-gallon bucket at the range is for spent brass. Please pick up your brass when you are done shooting and take it with you or leave it in the bucket. Please do not leave trash in the 5-gallon bucket.

    • There is not a trash receptacle at the pistol or rifle range so please take any trash with you. This includes cigarette butts, your shot up targets and empty drink and ammo containers.

    • Broken glass was found on the range this past weekend. Please do not shoot anything but paper or steel targets on the pistol range.

 

Guest Speaker

  • Friends of the NRA Presentation

    • Darin Smith provided information regarding hosting a Friends of NRA banquet. This money helps raise money to support local youth shooting sport programs.

      • Erik and Jake said that we had 200+ attendees at the last banquet we hosted years ago.

    • If anyone is interested in being part of the committee to drive this forward, please let Rex Roberson (bvsportsmansclub@gmail.com) know.

Old Business

  • Absentee Voting for Board Elections: NOT APPROVED

    • First vote (April): Failed (5 for / 4 opposed) – Correction, this originally was listed as passed but the 5/4 vote does not meet the 2/3rd majority requirement.

    • Second vote (May): Passed (9 for / 5 opposed)

    • This issue is officially closed. It can be brought back to the board in April of 2025.

  • Clubhouse Porch Covering:

    • Greg Newton obtained revised estimate: $1,100–$1,300.

    • Motion passed (11 for / 0 opposed) to approve, subject to Greg getting city approval (required by lease agreement).

New Business

·        Trash service has not been showing up. Erik P will follow up with the trash company.

·        Jake would like to build houses for the 5 stand machines so that they can be left out on the field for use. He will get a cost for building them.

·        We need someone to take over filling the water tank at the clubhouse.

o   Jake will also look at getting a trailer for hauling the water.

·        Also need a volunteer to replace light bulbs at the clubhouse.

o   Mitch said he will take care of the light bulbs.
