A few of the board members met with Charlie Able, a member and CPA, regarding the clubs need to pay sales tax and some other items. Here is what was discussed.

Tax reporting requirements
1. Articles of Incorporation
Legal name reads "sportsmens"
Articles of Incorporation are correct
the bylaws need to be changed (sportsman or sportsmans)
What name is listed on our General Liability (GL), Directors & Officers (D&O) insurance?
2. 501c Designation
These are exempt organizations with 28 subsections
We are a 501c4 - civic league to promote social welfare, membership limited to employees. We cannot give partisan political donations
a better fit may be 501c7 - club organization for pleasure, recreation, etc
How do we change? Re-apply for a 501c designation
This is understood to be a painful process to apply, but should be accepted because we already have 501c designation
3. Tax Exemptions
A Federal exemption is not the same as a State exemption
private clubs subject to tax upon sale of tangible personal property. Non-profits do not qualify as exempt when they are either a private club or a non-profit organization.
Jim Willut to send a copy of the tax license
Do we need a wholesale tax license? (Answer: No - see below)
Colorado Department of Revenue:
When we make a purchase for items for resale (ex: shotgun shells), we should provide the vendor a copy of our retail sales tax license which should enable the vendor to sell us these shells without charging sales tax. When this happens, we must then charge and remit sales tax when we sell these shells.
If we make a purchase for items for resale (ex: shotgun shells) and we are charged sales tax at the time of the initial purchase, since sales tax has already been charged we do not need to charge or remit sales tax when we sell these shells.
4. Club Management Software
Many vendors out there provide this type of solution

Grant Request for Trap House Repair - Jerry brought up the topic of writing and submitting a grant to build new trap houses and refurbish three of the traps. CPW opens requests in November. Jerry is looking for volunteers to assist in writing the grant.
Rifle Range Sight in Days - We need to identify dates and advertise when the rifle range will be open for public sight in. Also need volunteers to man the range during these times.
NRL22 Program being developed https://nrl22.org/faq/. Jake Farber is working on getting a NRL22 competitive league setup for next year. This is basically precision rifle shooting using a 22LR Rifle. If you are interested in helping Jake develop and implement this program please reach out to Jake Farber.
Youth Trap Update - The Young Guns Trap Team is currently in first place in their division. Jake Farber recently had Lance Bade, a three time Olympian Trap Shooter and Trap Coach, come in and work with the team. It was a great experience for all. Jake is willing to arrange another visit by Lance for our adult trap shooters if there is an interest. There would be a small fee to cover this visit. If you would be interested please reach out to Jake.
