WE ARE CHANGING THIS TO A BVSC MEMBERS ONLY SHOOT
If you participated in our Thursday shoots over the summer as a non-member you are welcome to join us but we will be looking for regular attendees to join the Buena Vista Sportsman's Club in 2023.
This shoot will be limited to 10 shooters for safety and range capacity reasons. If you plan to attend this shoot, please email Rex Roberson (roberson.rex@gmail.com) to let him know you are coming and how many people are coming with you. If more than 10 shooters show up, members will have priority over guests.
- Members may bring one guest. If a member wants to bring more than one guest, please check in with Rex @ 303-253-1920 to make sure there are open spaces available.
- If you are not a member and would like to join or would like to check out an event prior to joining, please reach out to Rex.
COST
- Payable in cash at the event.
- $5 per BVSC Member / $10 per BVSC Guest.
- All money goes back into purchasing and maintaining range equipment.
WEATHER & CLOTHING
- We will shoot in lightly inclement weather so please dress accordingly.
- If unsure of weather please contact Rex @ 303-253-1920 to confirm the shoot is on.
THIS WEEKS COURSES OF FIRE
- Five Shot Grouping Exercise and Guardian Twelve Practical Course
SHOOTING EQUIPMENT
- GUN - Any semi-automatic handgun that is in safe working condition. Revolvers are welcome but if shooting a revolver please be aware of the number of rounds we will be shooting on this week’s course of fire. You will need to be able to reload your revolver quickly.
- BELT/HOLSTER - Optimally we would like you to shoot from a holster. However we understand that some of our attendees may not be comfortable drawing from a holster yet and that is ok. If you prefer, you can start from the low ready position.
- EXTRA MAGAZINES - Some of our exercises include reloading the gun so we do suggest you have at least one extra magazine for your gun.
- EYE & EAR PROTECTION - All attendees must wear any time range is hot.
ROUNDS NEEDED
- 75 to 100 - Preferred round calibers are 22LR, .380, 9mm or .45 but most handgun calibers are welcome.
SKILL FOCUS
- Grip, sight alignment, trigger, drawing from holster, reloads, movement, target transition.
SHOOTER SKILL LEVEL
- All shooters are welcome, however we do expect that you have a good understanding of gun safety, a safe gun handling mindset, you are comfortable loading / unloading your firearm and manipulating the slide. If you don't feel you meet this level please contact Rex Roberson, 303-253-1920, prior to attending the shoot.
WARMUP DRILL - Five Round Grouping Exercise
Our warmup drill will be a 5 round accuracy drill to get you warmed up and make sure your gun is shooting as expected. We will shoot at a 1" square on an 8.5" x 11" piece of paper from 5 yards. Focus will be on grip, sight alignment and trigger pull.
PRACTICAL COURSE - Guardian Twelve
Here is a video of Rex Roberson shooting a similar course. https://vimeo.com/765312709
We will shoot a 20+ round course of fire called The Guardian Twelve (course diagram below). In this drill we will focus on moving and shooting while keeping our muzzle pointed in a safe direction. Targets are a mix of paper and steel and distances will range from 3 yards to 21 yards.
We will shoot this course three times. The first time we will run it dry with an unloaded gun. Then we will run it again twice with live ammunition.
Don't be discouraged by the complexity of this course. The idea here is to get comfortable moving from target array to target array and transitioning from one target to the next. This is not a competition so don't worry about shooting fast.
You will shoot 20+ rounds on this course and perform a mandatory reload so you will need more than one magazine.
Written Stage Brief
Start position will be toes touching the center of the rear barrier marked in red facing downrange. If shooting from holster hands will be below the belt line. If starting in low ready, muzzle will be pointed at a cone marker under the port in the angled wall.
On the start signal, engage targets as visible from within the shooting area with the specified number of shots. Targets may be engaged in any order. You must reload at least once during the course of fire.
Paper targets require two hits, steel targets require one hit.
I look forward to seeing you there. Please reach out if you have any questions.
